Doomsday prepper says DMs flooded with people fearing WW3
Sari Sanchez who calls herself a “practical prepper”, says she is already poised and ready for catastrophe.
But amid escalating conflict in the Middle East and fears of another world war breaking out, the 41-year-old says she has recently received lots of messages asking for tips on how to be ready.
She says the two main things you have to be prepared for are how to shelter in place – meaning how to hide in your home – and to be ready to evacuate when needed.
Sari, who lives in Los Angeles, said: “I want to be here, and I am so insatiably curious about things that I am willing to do what it takes to stick around as comfortably as I can.
“I think I am reasonably prepared. There is a point where you have to grab some chocolate and a prayer and hope for the best. You can’t make your life crazy trying to control it.
“I probably have 100 DMs on my TikTok from people saying that they need me. I have noted the energy shift. But we have seen this before and we will see it again. You have just got to hold it together.”
Sari says that the first thing to do is make sure that you have the essentials such as water, medicine, and food- picking up cans and cereal bars at the supermarket.
Water is the most crucial, so she suggests having a filter so that you can make any water near you safe to drink, even water from the toilet, and access to fire to boil it.
It is also key to have a relationship with your neighbours or people in your community, so that you have somewhere to retreat if needed.
A top tip is to start memorising phone numbers, as Sari says people rely too heavily on their phone contacts, which might not always be available.
She added: “Don’t get caught up in all the gear and the trinkets just start with the basics. Make sure you have a water supply.
“Most people have these things they just either live in a mess and don’t know where it is or they haven’t thought about it.
“You should be able to sustain yourself for at least three days without leaving your house. People often think about leaving, but most of the time you will probably stay in your home.”
Next, make sure that you have a ‘bug out bag’ packed for yourself and your loved ones with a flashlight, decent shoes, snacks, water, a photo of a loved one, and layers for different weather.
Another great tip is to create a list of all the essentials and valuables that you would want to pack in an emergency, so that you know exactly what you need to grab if the time comes.
Also, Sari says it is important to blend in, as you don’t want to look too prepared in a disaster setting, or you will make yourself a ‘target.’
She said: “You really have to be self-reliant and situationally aware. That is number one.
“Don’t walk down the street with a massive backpack which looks like it is loaded with amazing gear and medical equipment, because you are going to lose that real fast.”
Finally, to prepare in the meantime, Sari recommends using spare time to try and learn a skill such as CPR, medicine, foraging, sewing, cooking, or botany- even if this is just on YouTube.
She said: “Some kind of skill or value that you can bring that is not technology dependent will be very helpful. You can barter that skill and bring value to a community or situation.
“Make sure that you have your stuff together in your house, that you can bring it with you, that you have a good community, and instead of doomscrolling on TikTok pick up a skill.”
