Lausanne coaches already impressed by two key traits of Man United loanee Sekou Kone
Manchester United didn’t make any late signings, but they did confirm that young midfielder Sekou Kone would head out on loan.
Kone is highly regarded at Carrington, but the club felt he needed regular playing time to aid his development. A loan move looked like the right step forward for him.
The 20-year-old has joined Lausanne-Sport in Switzerland, a club linked to United through shared ownership. He’ll stay there until the end of next season.
Kone spent time training with Lausanne throughout January and did enough to earn a place in their squad for the rest of the campaign. Early reports suggest he’s already settled in well.
Sekou Kone already impressing coaches at Lausanne
The Daily Mail reports that Lausanne are “over the moon” to have secured a deal for Kone.
“Coaches are understood to have been blown away by his technical level on the ball,” the report adds, and there is “a real excitement in the building at his ball-winning ability.”
Kone’s loan move is being seen as a “litmus test” of United’s multi-club model, with both sides hoping it sets a positive precedent.
He’s not the only young United talent spending time there either, with Enzo Kana-Biyik also on loan with Lausanne this season.
Sekou Kone can put himself in the picture for Man United place
Over the next few months, Kone has the chance to get consistent playing time and show those back at Carrington that he’s ready to step up for United.
Kone’s skill set could provide an option in midfield, especially with Carlos Baleba having a tough season so far.
United are expected to overhaul their midfield in 2026, but if Kone stands out during his loan spell, it might save Ineos from having to spend big on a new signing.
With Casemiro now gone, there will be openings in the squad when he returns this summer.
